Who we are

We’re a UK charity that supports an international movement of legal action to prevent catastrophic climate change. You may have heard of our success in preventing the Heathrow Expansion (case info). We aim to make those responsible for greenhouse gas emissions bear the costs of the damage caused by their actions. As a result, we increase incentives for investing in clean technologies, harnessing market forces towards a better future for us all, but especially for those who are already suffering the damaging effects of climate change.

Why Plan B?

Plan A should be all governments reaching an international agreement on a global ‘carbon budget’ to avoid the worst effects of climate change along with agreed Principles for a fair division of that budget between countries. The 2015 Paris Agreement brings progress, but it does not deliver Plan A. The clock is ticking: now is the time for us to act on Plan B.

What is Plan B?

A networked, international legal strategy to meet the long-term climate goals by securing:

Equitable distribution of a carbon budget

Polluter liability for climate change loss and damage

Massive investment in adaptation and mitigation technologies

Effective remedies and protections for the victims of climate change.

What we're doing

Taking the UK government to court, to compel it to act on its commitment to the Paris Agreement.
Our legal cases

Developing legal resources to support citizens, NGOs and others in bringing their own actions anywhere in the world.
